New 2024 Subaru WRX STi Specs, Changes, Release Date – Subaru’s WRX STI may look like an old car, but it’s one of the best vehicles on the road today. In a world where most sports sedans and hatchbacks still have to be able to handle the daily grind, the bare-bones harshness of a car like the Volkswagen Golf R is strangely alluring.
No question, the WRX STI can be a valuable car. It appears usability is an afterthought on test drives because of the bodyshell Subaru put over the hard-core foundations. The all-wheel-drive, flat-four-powered beast is the Subaru’s most distinctive feature. Just like its creators intended, it provides a thrill-seeking driving experience.
2024 Subaru WRX STI Redesign
With Solar Orange Pearl and Magnetic Gray Metallic exterior colors, the 2024 Subaru WRX STI features a reshaped silhouette. The vehicle’s aerodynamics have advanced significantly, as air leaves near the front wheels reduce lift. The 18-inch alloy wheels on the Subaru WRX GT package are a nice touch. A five-pound weight reduction was achieved by fitting the aluminum fender with the slender, lightweight LED headlamps.
The identical 17-inch and 18-inch wheelsets appear to be used for various grades. A low-profile spoiler is installed on the rear panel of the decklid to boost downforce in fast turns. Rear tail lights with Volcanic Magma accents complete the vehicle’s exterior design. The WRX will feature a 0.8-inch lower ground clearance than the Jetta GLI. The curb weight is lower than the Stinger’s, which will help to reduce the forward mass transfer.
Interior
A three-box sedan with a 60/40-split-folding rear seat, the STI is roomy despite its tiny size. As typical of sport-compact vehicles, the interior quality, layout, and feature count are all low. Red Recaro seats and red seatbelts are available, but they don’t add much to the STI’s appearance, and the enhanced materials and better sound insulation don’t make up for the STI’s price. On the other hand, Subaru’s competitors are hatchbacks with more cargo capacity. Besides the console bin and door pockets, the center console has ample space for small items.
With the STI, Subaru’s Starlink infotainment system is preinstalled, as is a 5.9-inch color information display on the dashboard. As simple as it is to operate, it offers a wide range of current functions while not being the most sophisticated or high-resolution device available. However, neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto is supported.
Engine
The 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine in the WRX STI produces 310 and 290 hp and pound-feet of torque, respectively. A 6-speed manual transmission sends energy to all four wheels via front and rear limited-slip differentials. It is possible to customize the center differential settings using the Driver Controlled Center Differential. I prefer to use a more significant rear bias to get the S209 to spin a bit more, but the S209 performs just as well without it. It’s not that I don’t like the DCCD for racing, but when I drive on the highway, I prefer the automatic mode.
The S209’s maximum torque is accessible in third gear at 3,600 pm, making it ideal for quick exits from curves. Even though this vehicle’s super-stiff chassis makes me feel every bump on the road, the trade-off is worth it. The S209 does exactly as I asked it to, which makes me very happy. It always emerges unharmed and continues its journey as it dives into corners with ferocity.
