2024 BRZ Specs, AWD, Availability – Subaru BRZs from the first generation were a joy to drive. Back-wheel-drive sports cars like the original Datsun Zs and old MGBs were revived with it and the Scion FRS, which was rebadged as the Toyota 86. For power, they were two rungs behind our favorite V8 American pony cars, with their matched four-cylinder engines. But when it comes to sheer fun, they’re hard to beat.
EyeSight is only available on automatic versions of the Subaru. Subaru’s 2024 BRZ retains a competitive MSRP of under $28,000 to please the enthusiast market as an actual sports vehicle. Just remember that the costs listed are for the manual-transmission type; if you want the ease of an automatic, expect to pay more.
2024 Subaru BRZ Redesigned
The 2024 BRZ is a new car, but it is also the model’s second generation. It’s based on a positively reworked version of Toyota’s previous platform. A six-speed transmission and a boxer engine in the front, with only power for the rear wheels, are the same as the old car. Subaru plans to remedy the 86/BRZ’s lack of control with a 2.4-liter naturally-aspirated flat-four engine created for the second generation model. It has 227 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. This final figure represents a 15% increase and is critical to comprehending the new low-cost, high-performance vehicle.
The 2024 BRZ will be offered in seven colors, even though Subaru has yet to post the configurator for the model. Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl, along with potentially Ice Silver, are expected to be the default no-cost colors. Other color options include Magnetite Gray, Sapphire Blue, WR Blue, and Ignition Red, the latter of which is the most intriguing.
An improved and more spacious cabin is one of the many upgrades to the 2024 Subaru BRZ. The BRZ has a 2+2 seating configuration, as do all coupes, but the back seats are largely ornamental rather than functional. However, most of the original layout has been kept with some much-needed improvements, so the build quality has also increased. Furthermore, the new all-digital instrument cluster offers even more information. The interior is almost identical to the previous model, with plenty of room in the front seats and bucket seats for fast driving.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel, gearshift, and parking brake boot are standard on the Premium model, with black fabric upholstery and red contrast stitching. Ultrasuede upholstery with red leather accents may be found on the Limited trim level. The instrument panel and doors of both Subaru BRZ models are finished with a Brin Naub Nubuck-like material. Hard and soft plastics are still used for the majority of the interior trim. If nothing more, at least the unpleasant rattles and squeaks have been eliminated. It looks good, but it’s a little on the cheap side compared to the previous generation. Costs had to be slashed somewhere to make this vehicle more affordable.
A four-cylinder boxer engine provides power with a 2.4-liter displacement. A turbocharger is still present, but it is replaced by a Toyota-developed port-and-direct-injection system initially used in the first iteration of the seven-seat Ascent. Power and torque are boosted by 22 kW and 37 Nm from the outgoing car, respectively, to 174 kW and 249 Nm at 3700 pm.
Because of the larger engine, the 2024 BRZ’s gas mileage is worse than that of the first generation. For more power, I understand the need for a compromise. Although the BRZ’s automatic transmission gets 21/30/25 mpg in the city, highway, and combined fuel economy, the six-speed manual’s fuel economy is 20/27/22 mpg. Mechanical models can travel up to 330 miles in mixed circumstances with a 13.2-gallon tank, while manual models can travel up to 290 miles.
The Release Date and Price of the Subaru BRZ in 2024
While the Toyota GR86 and the most recent Mazda MX-5 are more expensive and provide more features, the 2024 Subaru BRZ is an excellent value. As for its four-cylinder rivals, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro come in at a similar price point.
There are two options for the Limited: a manual gearbox or a self-shifter. It costs $27,995 for the six-speed manual and $29,595 for the six-speed automatic to purchase a Subaru BRZ Premium. The $960 destination charge is not included in the price of the Subaru BRZ in any configuration. When will the 2023 BRZ be available for purchase? That will be in the summer of 2024.
